MAG Summer Artist Residency 2020

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS | March 1, 2020

Call for Submissions: MAG Summer Artist Residency 2020

The Mitchell Art Gallery invites Canadian and international artists to apply for the second year of the MAG Summer Residency Program. We encourage applicants with interdisciplinary, non-traditional creative practices to apply.

This residency works to support an artist with space and time to initiate or further a body of work, and bridge their practice with a local community, whether a project connects to a relevant local issue or history, or has participatory or socially-engaged elements. The residency is intended for artists interested in the reciprocal learning opportunity from encountering a community or public, with the MAG as the home base for those encounters.

Application deadline: March 1, 2020

What the program covers

The MAG summer residency program covers return travel to and from the residency, as well as accommodation, a presentation or workshop fee and the gallery as studio space (over 1200 square feet). All other materials, equipment, additional travel and other expenses are the responsibility of the artist. Artists with families are invited to apply and children or spouses will be accommodated in housing arrangements.

Residency period

The residency runs for four to six weeks between May 15 and August 15.

Application criteria

The Mitchell Art Gallery invites applications from Canadian and international artists. We encourage applicants with interdisciplinary, non-traditional creative practices to apply. The studio space is not a specialized facility; however, the gallery can provide access to basic tools. All materials and equipment are the resident's responsibilities.

Applications must include a proposal for a workshop, presentation or participatory dimension that the applicant intends to present or facilitate during the residency, for which the gallery will pay appropriate fees according to the CARFAC fee schedule. This program could be a weekly program, workshop, collaborative project or similar in scale, and the proposal must make clear how the communities the MAG serves will benefit from engagement with your project.

Interested in applying?

Collaborative applications or more than two applicants will be considered; however, residency housing and travel allowances are limited.
