MacEwan University celebrates the good news of its staff and faculty. Here are a few recent accomplishments.
Social Work’s Assistant Professor Amber Dion helped organize Edmonton’s first-ever Indigenous culture camp in May. Established at Parkdale School and hosted by Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, the camp is intended to help connect the urban Indigenous population with traditional ceremonies and cultural knowledge and teachings they may not experience within the city.

Congratulations to Dr. Cheryl Pollard, associate professor in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, who accepted a three-year term as associate dean of the Faculty of Nursing. She begins the role July 1.
Sharon Chadwick, faculty member in the Centre for Professional Nursing Education, was awarded an Honorary Membership Certificate to the Alberta Occupational Health Nurses Association. This lifetime achievement award recognizes her “continued dedication and commitment to occupational health excellence and her significant contribution to the AOHNA.”
On another note, Department of Music faculty member John McMillan’s work on the score for Vital Bonds, a documentary about organ donation, won an award from the Alberta Media Production Industries Association. He picked up the AMPIA award for Best Original Musical Score (Non-fiction over 30 minutes).

Cue the spooky music: Arts and Cultural Management faculty member Candace Makowichuk was named the artist in residence for Edmonton Cemeteries. Candace plans to share her interest in photographic processes using cell phones, hand-coloured black-and-white prints and darkroom techniques with the community and Edmonton Cemeteries staff, and have an exhibition of her work before her six-month residency wraps up.
Colin Babiuk, faculty member and curriculum coordinator for the Public Relations program, received the 2017 Lamp Award from the Edmonton chapter of the Canadian Public Relations Society. The award recognizes the recipient’s commitment to public relations knowledge and the Edmonton PR community.
