The Hearing Aid Practitioner program uses the term ‘hearing aid practitioner’ to mean all professionals who dispense hearing aids but are not audiologists. In different jurisdictions across Canada and internally, hearing aid practitioners may be called hearing instrument practitioners, hearing aid specialists, hearing instrument specialists, hearing aid dispensers, hearing instrument dispensers and other similar terms.
Knowledge of the Profession
Hearing aid practitioners evaluate hearing ability; select, fit and sell hearing aids; and provide counselling and troubleshooting support for adult hearing aid users (Alberta Learning Information Services).
