Fitness Test

Your fitness test results must be received by the Office of the University Registrar for you to be considered for conditional acceptance to the program. Upon submitting your application to the program, plan to complete your fitness test as soon as possible.


Scheduling your Fitness Test

You must schedule your fitness test through MacEwan University's Sport and Wellness. Testing is done on a first come, first served basis. We encourage you to take your test as early as possible. However, please make your arrangements after you have received an email from the admissions office with your student ID number.

Cancellations and appointment changes must be made at least 24 hours in advance, otherwise you will be charged for the session.

 

Testing location

If you live in Edmonton and area (within 100km) you must take the test at MacEwan University City Centre Campus:

Required Forms

Police Studies Fitness Test Forms

  • Complete the Get Active Questionnaire over the phone with an employee from the MacEwan University Sport and Wellness Fitness Area.

  • Be sure to complete the “Police and Investigations Program, Police Studies Major Informed Consent” form and the “Police and Investigations Program, Police Studies Major Waiver” form and bring them with you to your evaluation.

  • Please bring the forms and the "Physical Fitness Test Results" sheet with you to the fitness test appointment. This is the official form that will be forwarded to the Police and Investigations Program, Police Studies Major.

If you are under the age of 18 you must have a parent or guardian sign your forms. If you fail to bring these forms with you we cannot complete the fitness test.

Guidelines

Please follow the guidelines below to ensure you receive the best score possible.

Refrain from:

  • Alcohol 6 hours before the fitness test

  • Vigorous exercise 6 hours before

  • Caffeine (coffee, tea, cola, etc.) 2 hours before

  • Smoking 2 hours before

  • Eating a meal 2 hours before

How to dress

Shorts, a T-shirt and clean running shoes should be worn. Please be changed and ready at least 10 minutes before your evaluation time. Shower facilities are available.

Fitness components tested:

Body Composition:

  • Height, weight, skin folds

  • Males: Chest, Abdomen, Thigh

  • Females: Tricep, Suprailium, Thigh 

Aerobic Fitness: Modified Astrand Bicycle test (8-12 minutes)

Flexibility: Trunk forward flexion (sit and reach test)

Muscular Strength and Endurance: Push-ups and curl-ups
