Band & Choral Clinics

Each year, many school bands in Alberta or other provinces come to the Conservatory of Music to attend Spring and Winter Band Clinics / Choir Clinics. The clinics are designed to improve technique, achieve better balance and dynamics, improve intonation, and overall musicality.

The Conservatory arranges clinics according to the student’s level and needs. We provide full band clinics and sectional clinics in which the students will learn and rehearse music with some of the best professional musicians and qualified music educators in Edmonton.

For more information, please call 780-633-3705.

Band teachers may also consider making a reservation with Edmonton Symphony Educational Program.

Jumpstart Clinic

JumpStart is a three-hour band clinic specifically designed for beginning band students who have little or no experience playing a band instrument, and is highly regarded as an integral first step into a school band program.

In JumpStart, students learn the base skills of musicianship and technique, including:

  • embouchure formation
  • sound production
  • instrument tuning
  • proper posture
  • efficient breathing

JumpStart clinicians are qualified educators, active performers, and leading woodwind and brass professionals in the Edmonton community. Many of our clinicians play with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and other professional ensembles, and are faculty members at the Conservatory of Music.

Clinics are normally scheduled in the first month of the new band year (September/October), with clinics running either 9:30 am – 12:30 pm or 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Alberta College Campus. Dates are determined at the time of booking.

Fee: $30 per student, plus 5% GST
