Conservatory of Music

Intermediate Harmony (RCM Level 10 Harmony and Counterpoint)

Course, Summer Workshop | July 2 - August 6, 2019

This course continues the study of written harmony from basic to intermediate levels. It follows the Royal Conservatory Level 10 Harmony and Counterpoint curriculum, but is effective as a general course going beyond basic formulae. Skills in the use of harmonic vocabulary and procedures such as dominant 9ths and 13ths, leading note 7ths, modulation, analysis of expanded forms, melody writing and two-part counterpoint are developed by means of a workbook. Students will learn the material in class and prepare exercises as homework for each lesson.

Pre-requisite RCM Level 9 Harmony or the equivalent.

The required workbook for this course will be RCM Celebrate Theory, Harmony & Counterpoint Level 10, available at local music stores, or it may be ordered at rcmusic.ca/celebrate-theory (allow 5-10 business days for delivery).
