Students participate in a vibrant celebration of art and design

In October the Design Student Organization (DSO) collaborated with Roundhouse to create an experiential space for the Vignettes Design Series, a month-long art and design festival that takes place in Edmonton’s downtown core. The festival is a vibrant celebration of art and inspiration, and is an opportunity for artists and designers to showcase their talents.

Quinton Wong, a third-year Bachelor of Design student, knew that MacEwan’s Design Student Organization just had to be part of it. He acted as the head liaison between DSO and Roundhouse, and was part of the creative team that conceptualized and executed the creation of a space to reflect the core values DSO shares with Roundhouse — collaboration and community.

“Realistically we were out of our depth a bit, being that we’re fundamentally digital designers,” says Quinton. Fortunately, DSO was able to pull it together thanks to their own team members, the Vignettes team and Roundhouse. “It was truly a collaborative effort to get it all done and makes me that much more confident that my DSO team can pull off a successful event of our own.”

For Quinton, watching people enjoy the fruits of their labours made the challenges, unforeseen obstacles and hard work worthwhile. “Seeing people interact and collaborate within the space and on social media was very fulfilling.”
