Enrolment
Anyone can enrol in non-credit courses and programs. You do not need to pay an application fee. Enrol early to save your seat in class. Early enrolment helps ensure classes are able to run as scheduled and avoids class cancellation.

Online enrolment is open until midnight the day before a course commences. To enrol on the same day a course begins, please phone us.

Online payment

Confirmation of enrolment
A confirmation of enrolment lists your courses, schedule, room numbers and start dates as well as a summary of charges. You should receive your confirmation of enrolment within a few minutes after the online checkout process is complete.

Search for courses and programs on our website or download our School of Continuing Education Guide (PDF).
Write down the abbreviation of the course you're taking (example: SPAN 0100) plus the section number you want (example: A021). This information is available with each course description. If you like, record your choices on Continuing Education enrolment form.

City Centre Campus
At City Centre Campus, we will assist you with enrolling online. When you enrol online, you can pay by VISA or MasterCard or INTERAC© Online. All online payments are processed by our secure third party payment provider.

Payment by mail
We accept cheques, money orders or bank drafts. Make your cheque payable to MacEwan University. All cheques, money orders, and drafts must have all of the following imprinted by the bank:

The university will not accept post-dated cheques.

Tuition and fees
GST
Tuition for non-credit courses and additional fees may be subject to GST.
Additional Fees
The total tuition and fees for a course may differ from those listed on the website or print guide as additional fees may be assessed for materials or supplies or for license agreements with external organizations. If there are additional fees, you will be notified by the first class.
Alumni, group and special rates
Special discount rates are available for MacEwan University alumni and groups of three or more. If you would like to take advantage of these special rates, please contact us to enrol.
Corporate sponsorship
If a company is assuming the costs of your tuition and fees, a letter of sponsorship must be submitted to the School of Continuing Education at the time of enrolment. It must include the sponsor’s name, phone number and payment information on company letterhead. Submit the letter of sponsorship in one of the following ways:

deliver in person to Alberta College (Sponsorship letters cannot be processed at City Centre Campus.)
Sponsorship letters must be course or program specific. A new sponsorship letter is needed for each course or program you take through the School of Continuing Education.
Substitutions not permitted
If a company is assuming the costs of your tuition and fees, your personal information is still required (i.e., last name, first name, birthdate, contact information, etc.). If you are unable to attend, the refund/withdrawal policies apply—another staff member may not attend on your behalf.
Income tax receipts
Students in continuing education courses leading to a credential may be eligible to receive a T2202A and claim tuition and education tax credits. Education tax credits are issued for courses that are a minimum of three months in duration. Please refer to cra-arc.gc.ca for details.
Transcripts
For non-credit study
You can submit an online request for an official transcript from the School of Continuing Education. The official transcript includes all non-credit study completed at the School of Continuing Education.
If you would like to wait to have your transcripts processed until after your grades have been posted for a term, select the "Grade Post" processing option. Otherwise, select "Process Immediately."
For credit study
Current students
Current students in credit study completed at MacEwan University can request transcripts of their credit study through myStudentSystem.
Former students
Former students in credit study, who do not have access to myStudentSystem, can request a transcript by completing a Transcript Request Form. Transcript request information and the Transcript Request Form are on the Request Transcripts web page.
Policies and guidelines
Refund policy
This policy is currently under review.
Refunds for courses more than four weeks long
For courses more than four weeks in length, a 100 percent refund is available to students who withdraw before the day of the second scheduled class in a face-to-face course unless exceptions are stipulated in the program guide and/or registration forms.
Courses less than four weeks long
For workshops, seminars and short courses that are four weeks or less, a 100 percent refund is available to students who withdraw five calendar days before the first scheduled class unless exceptions are stipulated in the program guide and/or registration forms. No refund is available after the deadline date.
Courses offered on behalf of other institutions
When courses are offered on behalf of another learning institution or agency, the refund category will be in accordance with the signed contract. Please contact the School of Continuing Education for details and deadlines.
Withdrawals / schedule changes
To withdraw from a class or change your enrolment to a class at a different time or location you will need to contact us.
Attendance policy
Face-to-face courses
You must have a minimum of 80 percent in-class attendance in order to successfully complete the course or to receive a professional development certificate. Some courses may require 100 percent attendance for successful completion and students will be informed in class.
Class cancellations
MacEwan University reserves the right to restrict enrolment or to cancel any class for which there is insufficient enrolment. If the course you have enrolled in is cancelled, we will make every effort to contact you prior to the start date. Fees for cancelled classes will be refunded or applied to another course.
Campus information
Classroom locations
Courses offered by the School of Continuing Education will be in Allard Hall on MacEwan University's City Centre Campus. Your confirmation of enrolment will list the campus and the room number(s) for your class. If your class takes place in different rooms on different days, your confirmation of enrolment will give you the details.
Parking on campus
Parking at MacEwan University is available on an hourly, daily or monthly basis at all campuses. Rates and parking locations are available at MacEwan.ca/Parking »
Wireless network access
As a student in the School of Continuing Education you will have access to the MacEwanSecure wireless network while you are on any campus. Once you have enrolled in a course, you will receive a follow-up email with your MacEwan Network ID, which you will use for future course enrolments and to access the MacEwan wireless network.

Credential definitions
Certificate of Attendance (Institutionally Approved Document)
A Certificate of Attendance may be issued to those individuals who have satisfactorily met the attendance expectations of a prescribed non-credit learning activity that has no formalized evaluation component.
Professional Development Certificate (Institutionally Approved Document)
A Professional Development Certificate may be issued to those individuals who have satisfactorily met expectations of a prescribed series of learning activities.
All courses listed within a Professional Development Certificate are exempt from GST under the Excise Tax Act regarding educational services as these programs are reviewed and approved by a University council.
Certificate of Achievement (Institutionally Approved Credential)
A Certificate of Achievement may be issued to those individuals who have satisfactorily met expectations of a prescribed credit learning activity of fewer than 30 credits for which there is a formal evaluation component.
All courses listed within a Certificate of Achievement are exempt from GST under the Excise Tax Act regarding educational services as these programs are reviewed and approved by a University council.
