The documentation style of the American Psychological Association (APA) is used primarily for social science, business, health and community studies courses. The following guidelines are based on the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition (2010). For other examples and guidelines, consult the APA manual or go the APA website.

APA Formatting and Template
This template includes the most common elements required of MacEwan University students using APA format. Some instructors may have requirements that differ from this template, such as the inclusion of an abstract or author's note. Students are always responsible for adhering to the instructor's guidelines, regardless of the information presented in Writing and Learning Services' templates, tutorials, or guides, and they are encouraged to consult with their instructors prior to using these materials.
APA Blackboard Tutorial
Writing and Learning Services has created an APA Documentation Tutorial as a self-enrol course on Blackboard Learn. MacEwan University students may access this course to learn more about APA documentation style. MacEwan University instructors may also assign the course to their students. A Certificate of Completion option is built into the course. In order to achieve the certificate, students must successfully complete all 11 modules with a grade of 100 per cent for each quiz. Students have unlimited attempts for each quiz. Upon completion, students can print or save the certificate to provide to their instructors.
To self-enrol in Writing and Learning Services’ Blackboard Learn APA Documentation Tutorial, please follow these steps:
- Log in to myPortal.MacEwan.ca
- Go to the Blackboard page and launch Blackboard Learn by clicking on the "Access Blackboard Learn" button
- On the 'My Blackboard' tab, click “Self Enroll Courses” in the Course Catalog section.
- Click the drop-down action link to the right of APA_Documentation_Tutorial_HallK3′ and click “Enrol”
- Click the “Submit” button
The Blackboard Learn APA Documentation Tutorial will now appear in your Blackboard Learn course list.
