Expand your understanding of key societal issues and find solutions to real problems.
MacEwan offers unique undergraduate research opportunities. You’ll work alongside your professors on research projects, and even pursue your own independently–an experience not offered at most undergrad universities.
The Office of Research Services can help you get started with your own research and apply for external awards and studentships, both provincial and federal. MacEwan’s Undergraduate Student Research Initiative (USRI) can also provide grants to support your research project.
Several of our faculty are featured each year in the Report on Scholarship, showcasing their latest projects or major findings. And our students are just as accomplished, winning awards for researching everything from the dark side of online communities to developing antibiotics for drug‑resistant bacteria species.
My biggest takeaway is how complex and important antimicrobial research is and how much more there is to discover. This project showed me how even small experiments can contribute to bigger conversations in science.

Student research day
Students are invited to present at Student Research Day each year, where you’ll give an oral or poster presentation detailing your work. Whether you’re conducting scientific experiments, creating art or engaging in community‐based scholarship, you’ll be a trendsetter and trend breaker, pursuing new hypotheses and asking important questions. You can also publish your findings in the MacEwan University Student eJournal (MUSe)
