International SOS
MacEwan University subscribes to the services of International SOS (ISOS) to offer safety and security advice, referrals, emotional support, travel registration tracking and assistance to students, faculty and staff who are travelling on university-related travel or studying or living abroad.
As a traveller, you have free 24/7 access to many great services offered by International SOS, such as medical, travel and personal assistance, as well as the Assistance App. The Assistance App is a powerful tool that provides key medical and travel information, one-click dialling to the nearest Assistance Centre, medical alerts and overall peace of mind, all at no cost to you.
International SOS provides registered travellers with:
- Pre-trip information
- Guidance on topics such as safe taxi companies and accommodations in the area
- Special and regional advisories that might affect travel (e.g., natural disasters, political unrest)
- Recommendations regarding incidents or reports occurring in the region/country you are visiting
International SOS provides travel administrators and travel authorizers with:
- Traveller check-in so you know where students, faculty or staff registered with International SOS are in case of emergency
- Impact reporting, which shows the number of students, faculty or staff registered with International SOS in an area with a special advisory

MyTrips is an International SOS tool that allows travellers to record their trip details prior to and while travelling. All students, faculty and staff participating in university travel must register their trip using International SOS MyTrips as outlined in the University Travel Policy. Register your trip after your Travel Authorization Form has been approved and before your departure date.
- All international university travel must be registered and approved by the travel authorizer prior to departure.
- Students who undertake university travel, as defined within Canada, are required to register their travel.
Registering with MyTrips allows International SOS to provide you with direct information based on where you are going. This includes:
- Pre-trip advisory: Before you depart, International SOS sends a pre-trip advisory email with information and links relevant to each of your destination countries.
- Automatic alerts: In the event that there are travel updates, medical alerts and/or special advisories for your destination, you receive real-time alert emails directly from International SOS specific to that location.
Importantly, MyTrips allows the university to keep track of where students and employees are located in the event of an emergency abroad. This allows the university to more effectively provide help during developing situations.
