DEPARTMENT of DESIGN

PROGRAMS

Our department has the largest Bachelor of Design program between Vancouver and Toronto, with over 55 courses dedicated to design. We also have the only digital/user experience design major in the Prairies.

Our innovative curriculum balances theory and practice and provides students with a human-centered approach to solving design problems using the theories and methods of the social sciences. Students choose from four areas of specialization in the degree or exit with a diploma after successful completion of the first two years of the program.

Your choice: Pathway or major

When you select specific option courses, generally starting in the second year of the Bachelor of Design, you form a pathway that focuses on one or more design disciplines that interest you. Pathways let you focus your design education without the formal commitment of a major. You do not need to “declare” a pathway.

If you want to formally specialize, declaring a major gives you priority access to courses and official recognition on your degree parchment. Typically, you declare your major in the second year of your studies.

You can choose from six established pathways, create your own pathway or major in Digital Experience Design.

Designers are increasingly placed in positions of leadership where they must present and guide a broad product vision within an interdisciplinary team.
