DEPARTMENT of HUMANITIES
History MINOR
Everything—every idea, invention and community—has a history. This makes history an ideal minor. Whether you specialize in the social or physical sciences, business, the visual arts, public health or another humanities subject, as a history minor you understand how your major discipline has evolved and intersected with other historical developments.
A minor in history fosters vital complementary skills, like the ability to extract meaning from texts and artifacts, compare and critique scholarly interpretations and transform independent research into informed analysis. While open to interdisciplinary methods and theoretical approaches, historians ground their conclusions in empirical evidence.
In pursuit of historical knowledge, you become a skilled communicator who knows how to gather and organize information, analyze complex issues and explain your findings clearly and persuasively. Whatever your major, historical literacy remains a fundamental component of responsible civic engagement.
