DEPARTMENT of HUMANITIES

Philosophy MINOR

Philosophy encourages you to think deeply and critically about your world views and belief systems. It provides you with the opportunity to reflect, in a systematic and organized fashion, on basic issues.

A minor in philosophy provides a foundation in analytical, ethical and systematic thinking, providing a strong complement to any arts or science major. You can apply what you learn to business, medicine, public policy, education and law.

Program of study

This minor is open to students in the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Science. Courses for your minor are only one component of the degree requirements you need to graduate. To see all courses required for the minor, check the program of study in the academic calendar.

Requirements can change from year to year. You will follow the program of study outlined in MacEwan University’s Academic Calendar for the year you declare your major/minor or the year you are accepted into an Honours program.

Vision statement

Philosophy at MacEwan is committed to the value and on-going relevance of the search for truth and wisdom understood as an unbroken tradition of philosophical investigation stretching back into Antiquity in both the East and the West. We demonstrate our commitment to this tradition in training our students to read primary sources texts from the history of philosophy in their entirety. We believe that an education in this tradition equips our students to approach the challenges of the modern world prudently and courageously.
