You are curious about the world, interested in learning about other cultures and understand the value of the global community. You want to explore issues related to international business more deeply than you can in the international business major.

As an Honours student, you work closely with professors who are experts in international business. You sharpen your research skills, develop theories, test hypotheses and contribute to the wealth of international business knowledge.

My professors’ encouragement, guidance and expertise helped open doors for me.

What to expect

You usually enter an Honours program at the end of your second year with a solid understanding of the principles that shape general business decisions. In senior-level courses, you focus on global business practices and the specialist knowledge required to operate businesses in other countries. You can tailor your studies to a geographic area or a specific industry. An international study tour gives you the opportunity to explore cross-cultural business first hand.

In the Honours program, you take an advanced marketing research course and a seminar course that prepare you to develop and present your Honours thesis. The research course focuses on analytical skills, teaching you to make objective, data-driven decisions. You learn to identify gaps in scholarly inquiry, formulate research questions, collect and analyze data, and present theoretical findings. In the seminar course, you work closely with your professor and other students to develop and present a proposal for your Honours thesis, which is approved by your Honours supervisor. Your work culminates in the presentation and defence of your Honours thesis to School of Business faculty and students.

Further study

An Honours program is excellent preparation for graduate school.

MacEwan students attend graduate and professional programs across Canada and around the world. If you are interested in obtaining a master’s degree or PhD, or if you want to attend a professional program such as law, a career development specialist can answer your questions and guide you through the application process. Then, at our annual Graduate School Fair, you can meet graduate program advisors from a number of universities.
