DEPARTMENT of PHYSICAL SCIENCES
Chemistry MINOR
Discover how stain removers work, how soda or sugar water affects the growth of a plant or why a car's airbags are filled with a highly toxic chemical. This minor gives you the inside story of how chemistry has a place in almost every aspect of our lives.
What to expect
Chemistry is considered the central science because it links together other sciences such as biology, physics, geology, health sciences and environmental sciences. Study the structure and behaviour of atoms, the compositions and properties of compounds, the reactions between substances and their accompanying energy exchange and the laws that unite these phenomena into a comprehensive system.
When you take a minor in chemistry, you are steeped in the scientific and able to make informed decisions about the implementation of new technologies or practices.
Program of study
This minor is open to students in the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Science. Courses for your minor are only one component of the degree requirements you need to graduate. To see all courses required for the minor, check the program of study in the academic calendar.
Requirements can change from year to year. You will follow the program of study outlined in MacEwan University’s Academic Calendar for the year you declare your major/minor or the year you are accepted into an Honours program.
Academic advisors in the Faculty of Arts and Science have prepared resources to help you understand how your major/minor fits within overall degree coursework. Consult the academic planning information to choose and enrol in courses and complete the major/minor declaration process.
