Our alumni awards honour the trendsetters, innovators and leaders who started their journey at MacEwan University. Help us celebrate a MacEwan alum who’s making a difference in their profession and community.

The Distinguished Alumni Award honours alumni who have demonstrated exemplary service and leadership within their profession and community. The Emerging Leader Award recognizes recent graduates who have made significant contributions to their profession and community early in their career.

Nomination process

If you know a MacEwan graduate who meets the criteria for a Distinguished Alumni Award or Emerging Leader Award, we want to hear from you.

Awards are presented annually, and nominations are accepted anytime. Nominations will be considered for up to three years and are presented at our spring Alumni Awards Reception.

Before submitting a nomination for the Distinguished Alumni Award or the Emerging Leader Award, ensure your nominee fits MacEwan’s definition of alumni:

A MacEwan alumni is “a person who has received a ministry-approved credential OR a continuing education certificate OR a certificate of achievement with support from Inclusive Post-Secondary Education OR has successfully completed 30 credits of a formal transfer program from the university.” Current and former MacEwan staff and faculty who are also alumni are eligible.

To be nominated for a Distinguished Alumni Award the nominee must:

  • Be recognized for their exceptional leadership qualities and commitment to serving others within their professional organizations, community, or mentorship
  • Be an active contributor to the social, cultural and economic well-being of society
  • Have made a positive impact within their profession, community or society and continues to inspire others

To be nominated for an Emerging Leader Award the nominee must:

  • Be a recent graduate of MacEwan University
  • Have made significant achievements in their profession

Individuals who are not eligible:

  • Alumni Awards are not awarded posthumously and are only awarded to individuals. Organizations or businesses are not eligible.

Acknowledging the exceptional accomplishments of our alumni starts with a well-prepared nomination that will assist the Alumni Awards Selection Committee in making an informed decision on your nominee.

  • Why are you nominating this person for an alumni award?
  • In what ways have your nominees differentiated themselves?
  • What are your nominee's achievements, including professional, academic, community involvement, leadership and any awards and recognition. Please include a detailed list.
  • How have the nominee's achievements made an exceptional impact in their field or industry beyond routine or expected performance?

Letters of endorsement
