Staff professional development
Professional development funding initiatives, available only to MacEwan staff, focus on skill improvement, career advancement and making a meaningful impact.
The Career Development Fund is available to staff and out-of-scope employees. The fund offers up to $750 per year for professional development. This funding helps you enhance your skills in your current role or prepare for a new one. You can use it for a variety of development opportunities, including the following:
- tuition for credit courses at MacEwan or other post-secondary institutions
- continuing education courses at MacEwan or other institutions
- conference fees, including accommodations, transportation and meals
- webinars and online training sessions
- professional memberships and professional development resources
- books, course materials and exam fees

The MSU’s Professional Development Reimbursement Program offers staff up to $250 per year for professional growth. Eligible MSU members can be reimbursed for the following:
- professional development training
- certification courses
- conferences and seminars
- software purchases

Faculty professional development
We are committed to providing an exceptional undergraduate learning experience, so we provide our faculty with a range of professional development opportunities.
The Centre for Teaching and Learning provides resources, connections and training opportunities that support faculty to develop skills, engage with fellow faculty members and advance their careers.

Eligible faculty receive $1,300 annually through the Faculty Development Fund. This funding supports professional growth and skill development, and can be used for various opportunities such as:
- conference travel and registration
- professional association memberships
- books and journal subscriptions
- teaching and research-related equipment or software
- editing, transcription or research support services
- licenses or credentials required by the university

The MacEwan Activities Fund gives eligible faculty, staff and out-of-scope employees $1,500 per year to explore learning and wellness opportunities on campus. Whether for personal growth or professional development, you can use this fund for the following:
- credit courses
- School of Continuing Education courses
- Sport and Wellness programs
- Griffins games
- summer camps
- theatre events

The School of Continuing Education offers professional development courses to help faculty and staff grow in their careers and explore new interests. Whether you want to upskill, reskill or pursue personal enrichment, there’s something for everyone.

Creating a safe and supportive work environment is key to MacEwan’s vision of Teaching Greatness. Faculty and staff are encouraged to take part in workshops, courses and safety programs that build skills, reduce risk and support professional growth. Opportunities include:
- Career programs like Workforce Engagement that promote ongoing learning and performance development.
- Practical skills training, such as managing contractors and emergency preparedness, to help staff work confidently and safely.
Strong leaders require strong support. That’s why we offer free leadership development programs and courses tailored to the needs of our faculty and staff through the following:

- the Sexual Violence Support Guide (SVSG), a nationally recognized program for addressing sexual violence
- customized wellness workshops tailored to your department or team
