You are fascinated by human interactions in the workplace and are curious about office culture, employee performance and organizational behaviour. You want to explore human resources management topics from all angles, carefully examine pertinent issues and conduct your own research.

In the human resources management Honours program, you tackle in-depth study of HR management topics such as recruitment, employee relations, compensation and workplace dynamics. You gain a comprehensive understanding of the field and equip yourself with the advanced knowledge and skills you need to lead the “people-side” of business operations.

What to expect

You usually enter an Honours program at the end of your second year, already equipped with a solid understanding of the principles that shape general business decisions. Then, in senior-level courses, you learn about human resources best practices, techniques for strategically managing a work force and how to gather and analyze HR-related data with the intent of improving retention and performance.

In research courses that are unique to the Honours program, you learn about quantitative and qualitative research, with a particular focus on developing analytical skills that help you make objective, data-driven decisions. You learn to identify gaps in scholarly inquiry, formulate research questions, collect and analyze data, and present theoretical findings. In a seminar course, you work closely with your professor and other students to develop and present a proposal for your Honours thesis, which is approved by your Honours supervisor. Your work culminates in the presentation and defense of your Honours thesis to School of Business faculty and students.
