Choosing a career direction, considering self-employment, making a decision about graduate school or a professional program—if you have questions about important milestones on your career path, our advisors can point you in the right direction.
Choose a topic—or two or three or more—from the list below. Then make an appointment to meet with an advisor. We serve all current MacEwan students and alumni (graduates from a degree, diploma or certificate program or who have completed 30 credits within a transfer program at MacEwan). Note that alumni can have up to five appointments.

An effective job search involves more than looking at job postings. At this one-on-one meeting, we will ask you about your current job search techniques and identify areas for improvement.

LinkedIn is an increasingly popular and effective job search and career recruitment tool. At this meeting, we will provide feedback on your LinkedIn profile.
We will look at your current LinkedIn profile online or you can bring a PDF version.

One-on-one appointments can be scheduled for resumé reviews. You can meet with an advisor to discuss your resumé with either a paper copy in hand or have your digital copy ready.
Meetings take about 50 minutes and include a detailed review of the content, structure and format of your resumé and cover letter. If you are responding to a specific job ad, bring it with you so we can help you tailor your response.
You don’t need to wait until you have an interview lined up to start preparing. We encourage you to book an interview preparation appointment even before you start applying for jobs. At the meeting, we will review the types of questions interviewees typically face, and teach you strategies to answer them well. We will also talk about types of interviews, interview preparation, following up with a prospective employer after the interview and more!

Come prepared to practice. We will set up a mock interview, where you can roleplay the part of an interviewee and we will be the interviewer. We will provide feedback on the content of your answers, body language, posture, nervous habits you might not be aware of and more! As well, we will provide tips for answering questions effectively.
Ideally, you will have some understanding of how to answer behavioral and situational interview questions and the STARS response before participating in a mock interview. You may want to book an interview preparation appointment first to learn this strategy.

If you are interested in obtaining a master's degree or PhD, or if you want to attend a professional program such as law or dentistry, an advisor can answer your questions and guide you through the application process. Attend the Graduate School Fair where you can meet graduate program advisors from a number of universities.
Join us throughout the school year for a series of career fairs and the Graduate School Fair. These events provide an excellent opportunity to connect with potential employers, discover volunteer opportunities and engage with representatives from graduate and professional schools.
