CONSERVATORY of MUSIC

Our Spaces

As the oldest music school in Alberta and one of the largest in Western Canada, the Conservatory of Music has been home to aspiring and professional musicians since 1903.

Located in MacEwan University’s historic Alberta College Campus, the Conservatory features ensemble rooms, individual studios and acoustically superior recital halls. Here, our students develop their talent in unparalleled performance settings.

Muttart Hall

Built in 1992, Muttart Hall is named after The Muttart Foundation, which sponsored the development of this premier Conservatory performance space. The Hall is also home to the Muttart Steinway, a magnificent 9-foot concert grand piano donated in recognition of the Foundation's 50th anniversary.

In 2018, to mark its 65th anniversary, MacEwan University's Conservatory of Music partnered with the Muttart Foundation to produce a series of concerts in Muttart Hall, which is named in memory of Gladys and Merrill Muttart for whom philanthropy was an important part of supporting the communities that had supported them. Throughout 2018, the Conservatory expanded its outreach music programs, created new partnerships with local communities and helped fund a concert series to celebrate the sapphire anniversary.

Recital Halls

The Conservatory boasts three recital venues—PCL Hall, Stollery Hall and Bryan Hall. In these venues, which seat 80 to 100 people, we host student concerts, music festivals, master classes, music workshops and more.

Ensemble Rooms

Sometimes a smaller space is needed for a musical event or rehearsal space. Our six ensemble rooms seat 30 to 50 people.

To support the music community, we offer discounted rental rates for non-profit organizations to host music events at the Alberta College Campus.
