DEPARTMENT of MANAGEMENT and ORGANIZATIONS

Management Major

Use your skills as a leader, negotiator and problem solver to enhance the workplace interactions and business success. Develop your ability to think critically about a problem and identify underlying issues in difficult situations.

In this generalist major, you learn about the various aspects of managing a business, from marketing, sales and accounting to human resources and logistics. You practice time management, conflict resolution and communication skills through hands-on assignments and real-world projects.

My profs consistently challenged me to come up with novel solutions and respond with both the community and bottom line in mind.
Josh Morris, Management major alumni

What to expect

Study management practices in a range of contexts: local and global industry, the not-for-profit sector and government. Considered one of the most flexible majors within the Bachelor of Commerce degree, you can tailor your education to fulfill your aspirations in areas such as leadership, diversity and intercultural communication, negotiation, business consulting, change management and business ethics.

In your third and fourth years, you work with community partners to find solutions to their organizations’ real-world problems, gain hands-on experience by analyzing and responding to case studies and apply classroom learning to industry-based scenarios. Throughout the program, you choose from a wide range of electives, including courses from outside the School of Business.

The best way to prepare students to do work that requires judgment, foresight and a deep understanding of business and people is to work closely with industry partners where they can do just that.
Dr. Mike Annett, Associate Dean
