ALBERTA STUDENT AID
The Government of Alberta, via Alberta Student Aid, manages several high-profile scholarships and awards for post-secondary students.

High school scholarships
High school scholarships are based on academic achievement in your high-school courses. Apply in your first year of university.
Alexander Rutherford Scholarship
The Alexander Rutherford Scholarship recognizes and rewards your academic achievement in senior high school and provides incentive for you to pursue post-secondary studies.
Apply directly to Alberta Student Aid via their online application. The Alexander Rutherford Scholarship is paid by cheque from Alberta Student Aid to your current address in myStudentSystem. If you do not receive your cheque, contact Alberta Student Aid directly.
Post-secondary scholarships
Post-secondary scholarships are based on academic achievement in your university courses. Apply for these scholarships in your second and subsequent years.
Indigenous Careers Award
The Indigenous Careers Award provides incentive for Indigenous peoples living in Alberta (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) to pursue and complete post-secondary studies in certificate, diploma, applied degree and bachelor’s degree programs.
Jason Lang Scholarship
The Jason Lang scholarship recognizes and rewards your academic achievements in Alberta post-secondary programs and provides incentive for you to continue in your undergraduate or professional program of study.
Apply for this award through myStudentSystem in either September or January. Do not apply more than once in an academic year.
The Jason Lang Scholarship is paid by cheque from Alberta Student Aid to your current address in myStudentSystem. If you do not receive your cheque, contact Alberta Student Aid directly.
Louise McKinney Post-Secondary Scholarship
The Louise McKinney Post-Secondary Scholarship is awarded for the highest level of academic achievement in post-secondary studies.
Apply for this award through myStudentSystem in September.
We recommend you apply for both the Jason Lang and Louise McKinney scholarships in the Fall. However, you will only be eligible to receive one of the scholarships in the same year.
