This workshop empowers you for academic and personal success! Participants explore what it means to be a 2SLGBTQ+ student at MacEwan University, while learning about the community, programming, resources and supports available.

Open to all members of the MacEwan University community, this workshop provides an introduction to several topics related to sexual and gender diversity. Participants leave with a deeper understanding of terminology, strategies for stronger allyship and simple steps we can all take to create a more inclusive campus for all.

Specifically designed for MacEwan faculty, this workshop empowers faculty members to create affirming learning environments for a diverse student body. Legal, institutional and ethical frameworks are explored, as well as concrete strategies for supporting equity, diversity and inclusion at MacEwan University.

Time: 60 – 90 minutes

Target audience: Faculty and instructors

Gender is a complex and personal experience that is influenced by context and lived experiences. This workshop uses the medium of fluid painting (also called paint pouring) to explore gendered experiences and encourage deep reflection, all while creating a one-of-a-kind piece of art to keep. All materials are provided.

Time: 90 – 120 minutes
Group size: Maximum of 12
Target audience: Everyone

Sexual and gender diverse communities encounter many barriers when it comes to accessing appropriate and affirming health and psychological care. This session explores those barriers and discusses practical strategies for a more inclusive and equitable system that is responsive to the needs of queer and trans community members.

This interactive presentation is ideal for those who work, or wish to work, in health and social support related fields such as nursing, social work, child and youth care, and others.
