EARLY LEARNING at MACEWAN

Lab School

We are a hub for immersive learning and research at the forefront of early childhood education.

ELM offers an immersive environment where students and faculty bring curriculum concepts to life through hands-on experience.

Mentoring MacEwan students

ELM serves as the lab school for MacEwan’s Bachelor of Early Childhood Curriculum Studies. Each term, several students from the program complete their field placement in our centre.

In addition, ELM extends authentic learning experiences to university students from an array of other faculties, enabling them to practice their skills in a mentor-guided setting. We regularly support physical education, speech and language assistant, massage therapy, psychology, arts and communications and social work programs. ELM typically has 1,100 student contacts over the academic year. With supervision from our educators, these students create exciting and diverse experiences for children as part of their course work.

Being able to take what I was learning in class and participate with the educators at ELM was an amazing experience.

Faculty mentors

Faculty from the Bachelor of Early Childhood Curriculum Studies provide pedagogical mentorship, guiding our practices and ensuring our team remains current with emerging theories, research and best practices.

One of the many reasons I wanted to work at ELM was to collaborate with faculty and have opportunities to deepen my professional practice.
