At MacEwan, your mental health matters. Uwill makes it easy to get immediate support when you need it. As a student, you can access free, confidential online counselling with a registered therapist.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed or you just need someone to talk to, Uwill connects you with professional support on your schedule. This secure third-party platform offers flexible, short-term, immediate online counselling appointments and crisis conversations designed for MacEwan students.

You can access up to six counselling sessions each year. Everything happens online, so you can meet with your therapist wherever you are: on campus, at home or outside Edmonton.

Getting started is quick and easy:

  1. Register at uwill.com using your MacEwan University email address.
  2. Check your email inbox and confirm your registration.
  3. Log in to choose a registered therapist who fits your needs. You can filter by availability, area of focus, gender, language or ethnicity.
  4. Pick a time that works for you. Sessions are available day or night including weekends.

On-demand wellness programming

Uwill also offers on-demand wellness programs led by trauma-sensitive instructors you can use anytime. Try yoga, meditation and mindfulness sessions to help you sleep better, manage stress, boost your focus and find balance.

Uwill is a leading global student mental health and wellness solution. Uwill provides free immediate access to online counselling and mental health crisis support for students.

Online counselling: With Uwill, you have the ability to book a counselling appointment with a registered therapist based on your unique needs and preferences (focus area, gender, language, ethnicity) at a time that fits your schedule (day, night, weekend) and your preferred appointment type (video, phone, chat, message).

Crisis support: If you are facing a mental health crisis, help is available 24/7/365 via Uwill’s crisis line at 1-587-205-8225.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.

Wellness support: Uwill also offers instructor-led wellness videos and programs. From yoga and meditation to self-care and stress relief, Uwill wellness offers tips, tutorials and practices to help you discover greater focus, balance and joy. You can access Uwill wellness content on your dashboard after you register.

Yes, Uwill is available at no cost to students.

For online counselling and wellness support, you can access the Uwill platform by clicking here and completing your profile using your MacEwan email address and current location. After completing your profile, you can immediately schedule an appointment with your chosen counsellor or access wellness support on your dashboard.

For support during a mental health crisis, you can directly call Uwill’s crisis connection at 1-587-205-8225 to reach one of Uwill’s registered therapists trained in crisis response. You do not need to register your profile on Uwill to call Uwill’s crisis connection.

Uwill therapists have a range of specialties and extensive experience working with students. Many individuals use Uwill to help with mood changes, anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, poor body image, academic challenges and loneliness, among many other things.

In addition, if you are facing a mental health crisis, you can get in-the-moment crisis support from one of Uwill’s registered therapists trained in crisis response by calling Uwill’s crisis connection on 1-587-205-8225.

You can access immediate online counselling appointments and crisis conversations complemented by wellness programming — all tailored to your preferences.

Treatment for certain conditions is not available on the Uwill platform due to Uwill's commitment to follow telehealth best practices. These conditions include the following:

  • high risk suicidal or homicidal ideation or safety concerns
  • active mania
  • active psychosis
  • severe substance misuse
  • severe eating disorders

The therapists in the Uwill community are registered therapists with extensive clinical experience and experience working with students. Additionally, therapists on Uwill’s crisis connection are also trained in crisis response.

The registered therapists aim to work collaboratively with you to help you accomplish your goals through teaching tangible skills. This means that your therapist will focus on providing specific tools, coping skills and resources to address the issues you are facing.

Yes. For online counselling appointments, you work with your therapist and select the format that best suits your needs. The first session must be video or phone and then you can choose the modality based on your schedule and needs.
