The MacEwan Griffins women’s soccer team was thrilled and proud to be invited to the Alberta Legislature to celebrate and receive congratulations for their tournament-winning performance at the U SPORTS national championship on November 21.

The nation’s top U SPORTS soccer squad was greeted by Premier Jason Kenney, who was joined by Minister of Advanced Education Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Kaycee Madu, Associate Minister of Status of Women Whitney Issik and MLA Joseph Schow.

During the visit, team captain and tournament MVP Samantha Gouveia presented a team-signed ball to Premier Kenney, Minister Madu, Minister Nicolaides and Associate Minister Issik to thank them for their support.

The victory marks a historic moment for both the team and MacEwan, marking the first national level championship won by a MacEwan Griffins team.

It was an inspirational week – we’re all aspiring to be grand as Griffins!
