In recognition of Dr. Craig Monk's generous donation, MacEwan University has renamed a space in Roundhouse as the "Run-Out Lounge."

At a private gathering on December 7, MacEwan's provost & vice-president, Academic viewed the new signage for Room 11-173, now called Run-Out Lounge.

“My gift supports the talented students, faculty and staff who affiliate themselves with Bent River Records," says Dr. Monk. "But designating an associated physical space to the label in this way reminds us how important it is to support collaborative opportunities actively. I hope this will be the place where the cool kids gather to share ideas, and the ‘Craig Monk Lounge’ would have just been too corny for that! ‘Run-Out’ fits with our commitment to the vinyl resurgence and all it represents in terms of tradition, resilience, creativity and skilled artisanship.”

This location in Roundhouse is named "Run-Out" after the ungrooved area between the end of the final song on a record's side and the label, reflecting Dr. Monk's love for vinyl records and commemorating the impact his gift to the university's Bent River Records has had on students.

With this donation, Bent River Records continues to find opportunities for students to work on vinyl and special projects. The gift has also funded an honorarium for Bachelor of Design students taking part in Bent River Records' album design competition and has helped the record label hold its first-ever songwriting competition for Bachelor of Music students.
