MacEwan University has received a $100,000 gift from TELUS Corporation that will establish two new student awards: the TELUS Nursing Awards and the TELUS Business Awards. Each year over the next five years, five qualifying students from each faculty will receive an award valued at $2,000.

“We’re very grateful for this outstanding gift from TELUS, which is really an investment in students at MacEwan,” said Dr. Annette Trimbee, president and vice-chancellor. “Supporting students opens up a world of possibilities—for themselves and for those around them. It’s not just about covering tuition or making rent—it helps lift students up, to feel seen and better able to reach their full potential.”

The TELUS Nursing Awards will be given to full- or part-time continuing students in any Faculty of Nursing undergraduate program. Recipients must also demonstrate volunteerism, community involvement or allyship to the 2SLGBTQ+ and/or BIPOC communities. Preference for these awards are given to students who identify as members of the 2SLGBTQ+ and/or BIPOC communities.

The TELUS Business Awards will be given to full-time continuing School of Business students. Recipients must demonstrate volunteerism and community involvement at MacEwan or the community. First priority is given to students who identify as 2SLGBTQ+ and/or BIPOC.

TELUS has supported MacEwan University through various initiatives since 1987. To mark these latest awards, a nursing simulation lab in the Robbins Health Learning Centre has been named for TELUS Corporation.
