On February 2 and 3, MacEwan hosted an English Student Conference featuring a keynote lecture by Alberta-based writer and environmentalist Alexis Knee. There was also a full day of panels in which students from MacEwan, Mount Royal University, Red Deer Polytechnic and the University of Lethbridge spoke about their academic research and creative writing.

John Cameron, chairman of Keller Construction Ltd., was named MacEwan’s 37th Allard Chair in Business at an event this month. Cameron will spend the next year meeting with students and faculty in classroom visits, lectures and special events to share his expertise.

Dr. Willow White, Bachelor of Arts Honours ’14, was on campus to present “Gender-based Environmental Violence in A Narrative of the Life of Mrs. Mary Jemison.” Dr. White co-edited a new Broadview edition of the book with Tiffany Potter, reframing the 19th-century book in 21st-century terms.

The John and Maggie Mitchell Art Gallery continued their weekly Art Buffets in February, where interested MacEwan community members could come and create art in a multitude of mediums. The events, which began in January, will be held each Wednesday throughout the rest of the Winter term.

YEG Ballroom danced their way through Roundhouse for a Black History Month performance where they showcased the power of Ballroom – a queer subculture where people can compete in a number of ways, from dancing to lip-syncing to modelling.

Black History Month wrapped up with the Black Stories of Belonging event. Part of the Interdisciplinary Dialogue Project, the event featured African music, dancing, food and the opportunity to share stories with community.
