We love celebrating MacEwan faculty, students and alumni who are doing great things. These are some of the many award stories that we’ve published over the past year, and we think they are worth a second look.

1. Students

We are big into sharing stories about students – they are the reason we’re all here.

Some of our most-read stories for the whole year are about convocation. Read about awards that recognized the academic achievement of the class of 2024 to find out why. For more about the grads of 2024, there are more convocation stories.

If you’re feeling sporty, read about Maria Berezius, one of MacEwan’s top-performing athletes who was named to the U SPORTS second team all-stars. Or, see how MacEwan honours its own athletes – a story about the recipients of the 2024 Athletic Awards, including the first-ever Griffins Leadership Award.

2. Alumni awards

Since 1986, MacEwan has honoured 118 alumni with Distinguished Alumni and Emerging Leader Awards. We have no shortage of stories about these inspiring people, and the best place to start is with the story announcing the 2024 recipients.

We’ve already profiled two of this year’s recipients:

Cheyenne Rain LeGrande is a performance artist whose work embodies Indigenous futurism.

Josh Languedoc is an Anishinaabe playwright, producer, teacher and storyteller who advocates for social change and the Indigenization of art.

Stay tuned for profiles of all the other recipients throughout the academic year – with Mallory Yawnghwe leading the way in September.

3. Faculty awards

Our award-winning students and alumni are mentored and inspired by brilliant faculty – who also receive their just dues.

Read about our 2024 Distinguished Teaching Award and Sessional Instructor Teaching Excellence Award recipients, newer profs who made an impression right out of the gate with 2024 Early Career Teaching Excellence Awards and the 2024 Teaching Leadership Award recipient, Dr. Mike Annett.

Keep an eye out for profile stories on each of these dedicated profs that we’ll be publishing throughout the next academic year.

5. And if you still want more...

We publish shout-out stories throughout the year to acknowledge members of the MacEwan community who receive recognition from outside of our walls.

Check out this shout-out story from August 2023 that highlights two MacEwan library profs who were recipients of the 2023 Punch Jackson Award of Excellence in Library Service, an honorary doctorate recipient who was awarded the Order of Canada and two alumni who received prestigious fellowships.

Our shout-out story in December included mentions of awards received by MacEwan’s Model UN club, Knowledge Keeper George Desjarlais and a handful of alumni. And the story from April highlighted The Griff and Dr. Jessica Haines’s 2024 Wildlife Outreach Award.
