When I first transferred to MacEwan, I was looking for a women in business program like the one I saw when I was a student at U of A. I was like, “Okay, where is that community?” We didn’t have one, so within the first three months of being here, I decided to start the MacEwan Women in Business Club with Ana Najm.

I was honestly shocked by the amount of interest we got. We hit 200 members a few weeks ago, and not all of them are business students – not all are women, either. We’re trying to build a supportive and inclusive community that’s open to everyone.

Our main goal is to help people, both personally and professionally. I want our members to walk away from our workshops having gained skills that can help them in their careers. Next year, we’re looking at doing workshops on resumés and interviews, and management and financial literacy courses – lessons that people can use every single day.

But I also hope that our members are making friends and lasting relationships too. I have made more friends in the last four or five months than I did in my two years at U of A. That’s another thing about the club that I really love – we’re not just here to accomplish a business goal and get connections on LinkedIn; we’re also bonded by a sort of sisterhood. It really makes the club a little bit special.
