On August 15, 2025 Scott Kashuba will become chair of MacEwan University’s Board of Governors. He brings to the role a wealth of leadership experience and deep ties to MacEwan.

MacEwan University is proud to welcome Scott Kashuba as the new chair of our Board of Governors, the first MacEwan alumnus to hold the position. Kashuba was appointed board chair by the Government of Alberta on July 9, 2025, and his three-year term will start August 15, 2025.

Dr. Trimbee, president and vice-chancellor of MacEwan University, looks forward to continuing her work with Kashuba as he assumes the role of board chair. “He’s been a tremendous supporter of the Teaching Greatness vision during his time as a director on the board. We’re well into the implementation of our vision and Scott brings a depth of knowledge, stability and experience that will ensure a smooth transition.”

Kashuba has been part of the MacEwan community for over 40 years. He studied in the Arts and Science program in the early 1980s and was in the initial cohort of students transferring to the University of Alberta, where he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts and Master of Business Administration. Prior to being appointed chair, he served as an alumni member of MacEwan’s Board of Governors since 2023, and received a Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008 to recognize his leadership in the community.

“I’m honoured to be selected as board chair for this great university,” says Kashuba. “I’ve always been very fond of MacEwan. From my time as a student 40 years ago to today, it’s retained a focus on teaching and a sense of community that sets it apart from other institutions. I look forward to contributing my skills to helping MacEwan achieve its goals.”

Kashuba started his career with the RCMP and spent 16 years there, specializing in forensics. After shifting to management consulting, he joined the Government of Alberta where he ultimately held the role of chief risk officer for the province. From there, he joined the Alberta Blue Cross to lead their risk and assurance areas.

Since retiring in 2021 to focus on enhancing governance in other organizations, Kashuba has served as a chair, vice-chair and director for a number of Government of Alberta public agencies, community and not-for-profit organizations. He is currently the chair of the Alberta Motor Association Board of Governors and has held numerous leadership positions in corporate governance, including chair of the Boards of Directors at Bridgewater Bank, AMA Insurance Corporation and the Alberta Management Employees Pension Plan.
