Well, the Olympics are over, February is in the bag and spring is (hopefully) right around the corner! While you wait to usher it in, stay engaged, entertained, active and fed with all that’s going on around campus in March.

Celebrate Pride

The world may celebrate Pride in June, but we start things a bit early. Join the Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity (CSGD) to celebrate and learn during Pride Week from March 9 to 13.

Take in the opening ceremonies and a campus march on March 9 before you head to SAMU’s Pride Lounge for an afternoon of festivities. Throughout the week, pick up some on-theme garb and swag at the Rainbow Market, read your poetry at Towers or try your luck at the Dirtiest, Sexiest Bingo

Want to learn while you celebrate? There are a handful of events to satisfy that craving. Check out Politics of Pride (part of the Queer Horizons speaker series), learn about consent, kink and art at a hands-on event with Doll 4 by Inuvialuk artist Kablusiak (and MacEwan Fine Art alum!), and check out Queer Research Connections featuring student research. If you want to continue with a more poignant experience of Pride, be sure to visit the photography exhibition about the persecution of homosexuals in Mussolini’s Italy, Faces of Exile: The Arrusi and the Policing of Gender and Sexuality in Fascist Italy. It will be displayed in the library until April 5.

If fitness is your thing, head to the gym for some Pride-themed fitness classes, including Rainbow Rides on March 10 and 11. That leaves you time to stretch before heading to Queer Prom on March 13, an off-campus celebration with the other post-secondary members of YEG Campus Pride. Check out the full list of events on the Pride Week webpage

Theatre and music and art and books

If you’re lucky, you snagged tickets to the Theatre Department’s performance of Monoceros before it sold out. Tickets are still available for their final show, A Chorus Line, running at the end of the month. If you dig concerts, then you might want to check out the Jazz Combo and Chamber Jazz Ensemble concert on March 15, the A Cappella Ensemble and Guitar Band concert on March 22 and the Songwriter concert on the 30th.

Into the visual arts? On March 21, hop on – then off – the ArtBus to explore 10 art galleries around the city, including our own Mitchell Art Gallery. Make sure to check out the Second Space gallery to see work created by some of our own Bachelor of Fine Arts students.

If you like being read to, don’t miss the next two events. The Department of English is hosting award-winning author Jasmina Odor as part of the Visiting Author series on March 5. And if you haven’t yet read MacEwan Book of the Year The Other Valley, you can snag a copy and get it signed at a reading with the author, Scott Alexander Howard, on March 20.

Learn outside the classroom, but still on campus

A handful of training sessions that address challenging topics are happening this month. Check out the Conflict Cafe on March 4, learn how to support survivors of sexual violence on March 5, take Bystander Intervention training on March 17 and join safeTALK Suicide Alertness training on March 23.

Catch the final instalment of the Interdisciplinary Dialogue Project 2026: Food Matters series on March 11, which examines Indigenous and Muslim perspectives on fasting.

Want to put that learning work? Get help finding a summer job at the Get to Work Fair on March 25.

Learn how you can speak from a place of abundance when working alongside Indigenous communities at the Circle of Abundance on March 16, hosted by kihêw waciston. Knowledge Keepers are hosting sessions on storytelling and mental health, healing and decolonization on March 26. Check out the kihêw waciston Facebook page for info about these events and more – like pow wow aerobics.

Learn away from campus

There are so many ways to learn beyond campus. Find out how at BCom student co-op information sessions on March 9, 18 and 24 and Education Abroad sessions March 13 and 24

And if you know a young person who is just starting to picture themselves on campus, they can attend a Design Student for a Day session on March 31.

International students

Take in sessions to learn about post-graduate work permits, taxes and even a chance to play soccer with some Griffins players. Details for these events and more can be found on MacEwan International’s webpage.

Tournaments!

If throwing balls at total strangers helps you de-stress, you’ll have three chances to do just that. Gather a crew of 20 to join the De-stress Dodgeball tournament on March 9. Prefer small groups? Grab two of your besties and register for a March Madness basketball tournament before the event on March 14. And if volleyball is more your thing, you’ll just need a few more friends to register for the 6-on-6 volleyball tournament happening on March 21.

Get fed and learn how to feed yourself

Register for a $5 cooking class and learn how to cook tasty meals from scratch – you’ll leave with a cook-at-home kit and skills that will serve you forever. Classes on March 10 and April 9 focus on French cuisine, classes on March 26 and April 2 focus on curries. Spots fill up quickly so don’t wait to register.

The Italian Centre Market will also be back with $5 subs, pasta and salad on March 4, 11 and April 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Griffins Landing.
