2026 may have started off with cold weather and icy streets, but MacEwan was still bustling with activity. From New Student Orientation to Mental Health Week to the Business Student Conference, the snow didn’t slow things down on campus.

We kicked off the new year and welcomed hundreds of new students to campus at New Student Orientation on January 2.

Alberta Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services Adriana LaGrange toured MacEwan’s state-of-the-art nursing simulation labs and learned about the many ways our students are preparing for real-world scenarios in their classes.

The Interdisciplinary Dialogue Project launched its 10th year with Honouring What Feeds Us: An Immersive Evening, where attendees gathered to learn about the ways food interacts with culture, identity and inequities.

Design students created album artwork for two albums produced by Bent River Records: “The Planets” reimagined for Jazz Orchestra by Allan Gilliland and performed by the River City Big Band, and “Mysticism for Intellectuals” by John Sweenie. The musicians chose their favourite pieces and the winning design students received cash prizes.

Following the opening of the new Patricia Street Deli location north of campus, the Jasper favourite also became the featured local pop-up in the Building 6 cafeteria. Check them out all Winter term!

After visiting classes to give students lessons in songwriting and working as professional musicians, The Bros. Landreth played a sold-out show in Allard Hall’s Triffo Theatre for Backstage Pass.

Edmonton Mayor Andrew Knack toured campus with President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Annette Trimbee, including a stop to chat with some political science students.

The Mitchell Art Gallery celebrated the opening of from where the grain itself can speak with a public reception. See the exhibition until March 28!

Mental Health Week took over campus this month – literally. The Building 8 pedway became the Pathway of Positivity, where students could leave notes of support and kindness for the MacEwan community.

Readers of all ages came to campus for the 14th annual Family Literacy Carnival – organized by the Golden Key Society, the Centre for Family Literacy and MacEwan – where children’s entertainer Beppi read a story and performed some songs.

Business students learned while networking with peers, faculty and industry professionals at the Business Student Conference – an annual event featuring panels, professional development sessions and keynote speakers.
