Yesterday,  Tumbler Ridge, a small community in Northern B.C., was devastated by a school shooting which took the lives of nine people including students and area residents. Our hearts go out to all who have been affected by this unthinkable tragedy and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the entire community and all those grieving a loss.

This event reminds us of the importance of compassion within our university and beyond. As an institution committed to community and community well-being, we stand with those impacted and offer thoughts of love and healing as they cope with the aftermath of this event. As an act of respect and solidarity, I have asked that flags on campus be lowered as we grieve alongside the residents of Tumbler Ridge.
