The Department of Design is hiring one or two students for the role of print centre monitor and design assistant.
Duties
As the print centre assistant, you work in the Allard Hall Print Centre (11-427) and are responsible for the following tasks:
- Administer and operate the production printer.
- Assist and instruct students using the Print Centre with pre-press file setup, colour calibration and troubleshooting.
- Maintain supplies and Print Centre facilities.
- Work with the Design department chair and staff on design projects for educational and promotional projects.
Time commitment
The successful candidate(s) are required to work a cumulative total of 13.75 hours per week for approximately 12 weeks per semester (September 22 – December 12, 2025; and January 19 – April 10, 2026), not including Reading Week breaks. This position is available to one student or split between two students, depending on availability. Please include the maximum number of hours per week you are available to work in the Fall and Winter terms in your application.
Minimum qualifications
- Must be a third or fourth year student (must have a minimum of 75 credits completed within the Design program)
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Knowledge of print and pre-press processes, including PDF file construction and CMYK colour formatting and separations
- Previous experience using the Ricoh printer in the Print Centre
- Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud apps for image, video and audio editing
Compensation
$16.35 per hour (2025 rate)
