Coffee and tea, doughnuts and research. You get it all when you attend Torus Talks.
Join faculty, guest speakers and students from the Mathematics and Statistics Department and learn about fascinating mathematical concepts at Torus Talks, a presentation series that shines a light on the beauty of math and statistics. Moving away from theory and lecture, the talks focus on intriguing topics such as magic squares, Rubik's Cubes, two-player games and electoral systems.
All presentations feature a yummy selection of the sweet treat shaped like the mathematical symbol called a torus.
Details for upcoming sessions in this series are posted in the campus events calendar as they become available. You can also find plenty of other exciting things to do. Discover workshops, celebrations, social gatherings and more.
Torus Talks then and now
In 2005, our department began hosting Torus Talks as a way for us to share our enthusiasm and passion for mathematics and statistics with students and the university community. We do that by choosing fun and interesting topics that a general audience might be curious about—and by serving doughnuts whenever we meet. Enjoy these topics and posters from past events.
