RESIDENCE

Fall 2021 Update

MacEwan Residence is open to welcome our residents and we want to assure you that the health and well-being of our residents is still always top of mind for us. The university takes guidance from public health authorities in making informed decisions that prioritize the health of our campus community.

Residence building

  • Masks are mandatory in public areas of the building.
  • Physical distancing (two metres) should be practiced whenever possible.
  • Study and social lounges are open with the following restrictions:
    • Residents must be vaccinated to use the lounges
    • There will be an occupancy limit of 11 people per lounge
    • Masks and physical distancing are required
    • Eating food in the lounges is not permitted
  • The games room, wellness suites, and the theatre room will be closed until further notice.
  • Bachelor and two-bedroom suites are the only suite types available during this time.
  • Increased cleaning protocols and disinfection of high touchpoint areas and surfaces.

Residence experience

  • 2-bedroom suites are now permitted to have roommates. We will assign roommates to these suites if you do not have one in mind. If you are assigned a 2-bedroom suite but would prefer to live on your own, let us know so we can change your suite type to a Bachelor suite (subject to availability).
  • You may choose to share a suite with someone you know or check the roommate selection page on the portal to find like-minded roommates.
If you have confirmed your spot in residence, visit the residence portal and click on your application. The roommate selection page will allow you to view invitations from fellow residents or find a prospective roommate.
  • Residence Life will continue to offer programming with a mix of virtual and in-person events. To attend an in-person event, residents will be required to show proof of vaccination through the SAFE@MacEwan app or a negative COVID-19 test result within the last 72 hours.
  • Each vaccinated resident is permitted to have a maximum of one internal or external visitor in their suite. An external visitor must be vaccinated.
  • Residents who are unvaccinated will not be permitted to have any visitors in their suites. Unvaccinated residents are encouraged to get vaccinated.
  • International students will be assisted by the Residence team, MacEwan International and the Students’ Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) while completing their isolation requirements. Should you require early arrival, please email residence@macewan.ca.
