MacEwan ID

All current MacEwan faculty, staff and students are required to have a MacEwan ID. Your MacEwan ID has many purposes. You can use it to do the following:

  • Verify your identity for university-related purposes.
  • Operate campus printers.
  • Sign out items from the John L. Harr Library.
  • Access the Christenson Family Centre for Sport and Wellness gyms, pool, change rooms and studios.
  • Easily access your MacEwan ID number.
    • Note that your ID number does not automatically display on your mobile MacEwan ID. To display your ID number, tap More or or   in the top right of your screen.
Switch to the new MacEwan ID

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to switch to the new MacEwan ID. While your old ID will function for a few months, the new ID is the new official MacEwan ID and offers you the option of adding it to your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

Obtain your MacEwan ID

Set up your mobile MacEwan ID

Follow these steps to add the mobile MacEwan ID to your iPhone, Apple Watch or Android device.

Download on the App Store

Get it on Google Play

  • Search for MacEwan University.
  • On the login screen, enter your MacEwan login credentials to authenticate your device.
  • You will be prompted for More Information, which will ask you to use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to verify your login.
  • Make sure your device software is updated. While updating may seem inconvenient, it’s a necessary step to ensure security, privacy and optimal performance.
  • Check that the Region/Country on your device is set to Canada.

Photo

Your mobile MacEwan ID includes a recent photo. You can submit a selfie or upload a recent photo, which will then appear on the mobile MacEwan ID.

Your photo must meet these specifications:

  • have been taken in the past six months
  • be suitable for official identification
  • have your face square to the camera, with your shoulders showing
  • show you looking directly at the camera lens
  • be in colour
  • be in JPEG or PNG format (a smartphone photo is fine)
  • have space between the top of your head and the top of your photo

Your photo must not have or show any of the following:

  • hats, sunglasses or graduation caps
  • inappropriate expressions
  • anyone other than yourself visible
  • background elements (e.g., shadows, trees, open rooms)
  • glare on prescription glasses
  • special effects, coloring or filters
  • be a photo of another photo
  • be cropped too close (e.g., cut off the top of your head)

To upload your photo, go to Settings in the Transact eAccounts app by clicking on the gear icon in the top right corner of the home screen of the app. Then select Submit ID Photo and click on the Get Started button.

You will get an email to let you know if your photo is approved, or if you will need to resubmit a new photo.

There is a technical issue with Google Wallet ID cards that is stretching the photo on the mobile ID. This has been flagged. Once the issue is fixed, it will sync automatically with your MacEwan Mobile ID. No action is needed.

Government ID

After you have uploaded your photo, click Next to upload your government ID. Government ID can be a Canadian driver's license or passport page that shows your full name and picture.

Upload a photo of your government-issued ID in JPEG or PNG format (a smartphone photo is fine). We cannot accept scans, screen shots or photocopies of your government ID.

When done, click on Submit and Sign Out to complete the photo and ID submission.

We do not keep a record of your government ID after the photo has been approved. Your government ID is solely used in-house to verify your identity.

After you get an email confirming your MacEwan ID is ready to add to your wallet, open the Transact eAccounts app and click Add to Wallet. This final step activates your ID.

Your MacEwan ID will generally be ready to add to your wallet within 1 to 2 business days of your photo being approved.

Get a physical ID

To obtain a physical copy of your MacEwan ID, visit Technology Support in Room 7-292. It is okay to have both a physical card and a Mobile MacEwan ID at the same time.

Manage your MacEwan ID

Once you have a MacEwan ID account, you may need to update, deactivate, reactivate or manage your account. Here are some of the most common reasons you may need to change account details.

Faculty and staff who want to request a name update can contact their HR representative. It usually takes 48 hours for your information to be updated in PeopleSoft.

Students can learn how to change their name or update a preferred name on the Personal Information page.

After these steps are complete, the updated information will sync automatically with your mobile MacEwan ID. To have your physical card updated, visit the Technology Support desk (7-292) for a replacement card.

If you forgot your password, locked yourself out, or need to change your password, visit Password/Account Management.

To learn how to activate and install multi-factor authentication, visit Multi-Factor Authentication.

Your MacEwan ID becomes inactive when you no longer meet eligibility requirements. If you transfer to another program or department at MacEwan, your credential stays active.

Alumni can request an alumni ID card by emailing macewanid@macewan.ca or visiting the Technology Support desk, room 7-292.

If you already have the Transact eAccounts mobile app installed, you must install the updated version of the Transact eAccounts mobile app. To do so, visit the App Store or Google Play Store on your iPhone or Android device and search Transact eAccounts.

The store will prompt you to install any required updates.

If you lose your card or device, or if you believe there has been fraudulent use of your credential, you can do one of the following:

Ask Tech Support to deactivate your ID

Contact the Technology Support desk during regular business hours and ask them to deactivate your MacEwan ID. Be sure to specify whether the physical card, watch or phone version of the card should be deactivated. Any device not specified to be suspended will remain active.
