SAFE AT MACEWAN

Travel Safety

Field studies, conferences, research trips, study abroad programming—MacEwan students and employees travel for many reasons. Before and during your university-related trips, you can take steps to stay safe, whether you're travelling outside the city, the province or the country.

Before you leave

Prior to booking any travel, it is important to understand the risks, local environment, health care system and security precautions related to the location(s) you are visiting.

  • Visit the International SOS member portal to learn more about your destination and to assist you with travel preparations.
  • Familiarize yourself with the hazards inherent to your destination.
  • Check Government of Canada Travel Advice and Advisories.
  • Check your visa requirements to make sure you have a valid visa, if needed, and that your passport is valid for the period required.
  • Review your personal health insurance plan and understand the coverage limitations and exclusions.

University-related travel must be authorized before you leave on your trip. Contact your instructor, chair or dean to ensure the Travel Authorization Form meets your department’s needs

SAMU groups: Contact the SAMU Student Groups Manager and the Manager, Student Success.

All students who participate in university travel must register their trip using International SOS MyTrips.

When travelling internationally, students are also encouraged to sign up with the Registration of Canadians Abroad service.
