Workplace Harassment & Violence

Workplace harassment and violence can take many forms, including physical attacks, threatening behaviour, verbal or written threats, domestic violence and sexual violence.

MacEwan University defines violence as “the threatened, attempted or actual conduct of a person that causes or is likely to cause physical or psychological injury or harm” (Harassment and Violence policy). MacEwan is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment and provides processes and support to prevent and address these situations.

If you experience or witness harassment or violence

Everyone at MacEwan shares responsibility for maintaining a safe and respectful environment. If you experience or witness harassment, violence or concerning behaviour, it’s important to take action so the situation can be reviewed and addressed.

Report an active act of violence

The first priority is your personal safety and those around you. In the event of an act of violence, call 911 immediately and then call Security Services at 780-497-5555. Provide your location and details of the situation and inform others around you if it is safe to do so.

Report a workplace violence concern or incident

If you experience or witness harassment, violence or behaviour that feels unsafe or inappropriate, submit a report through MacEwan’s incident reporting process. This ensures the situation is reviewed and the appropriate follow-up can take place.

Submit a formal complaint

Some situations may require a formal complaint, such as harassment, discrimination or violations of university policy. Complaints are reviewed through the University’s investigations process to ensure a fair and appropriate response.
