50th Anniversary Time Capsule

In 1993, the Students’ Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) assembled a time capsule and sealed it within Building 6, with instructions to open it during MacEwan’s 50th anniversary.

These contents offer a snapshot of campus life at that time, pay tribute to the institution’s roots and reveal a story of growth that continues today.

This gallery of 14 photos highlights some of the time capsule pieces. You can also view more pieces on display on campus over the next few months.

What should be in the next time capsule?

As part of MacEwan's 50th anniversary celebrations, the university will be creating a time capsule that will be opened on the 100th anniversary in 2071.
