Film Minor
Professional communication focuses on how organizations and individuals communicate clearly, strategically and ethically in professional settings.
This minor introduces you to areas such as strategic communication, technical communication, organizational communication and professional editing. You examine how messages shape reputation, influence audiences and respond to real-world communication challenges across digital, written and face-to-face environments.
What to expect
Upon the completion of this minor, you will be able to:
- Understand film theory and evaluate films using various theoretical frameworks
- Demonstrate an understanding of the history of film—the development of the film industry, emergence of various periods and movements in cinema, and how technology has informed changes in film structure and narrative
- Conduct film criticism using a variety of critical standpoints
- Demonstrate an understanding of the aesthetic forms and values of film
- Articulate the impact of film on cultural norms and practices, including ways in which individual films critique or advance social values, and the relationship between ethical theory and practice
- Explore film productions in terms of key concepts in film production and analysis
- Apply the principles and best practices of film making and production
