BACHELOR of MUSIC

MUSIC GENERAL MAJOR

Students in the General major have the flexibility to explore their personal study interests while completing core studies in jazz and contemporary music, applied instrument studies and ensemble work.

You can choose from four minors or leave your minor undeclared.

Minors

Music Career Management

The Music Career Management minor prepares you to enter the industry as a manager and agent, promoter and marketer, advocate, curator, and consultant. Courses address health issues related to the music profession, the business of music, marketing, branding, promotion, and artist and career development.

Music Education

The Music Education (MusEd) minor offers a program of study that prepares students to pursue after-degree studies in education with a music focus following completion of the MacEwan Bachelor of Music. Music education courses include conducting, technique courses in band instruments, and foundational courses required to teach in primary and secondary education.

Music Technology and Production

Courses in this minor include recording studio and production techniques, acoustics, and applications in music technology. You acquire professional-level skills in AVID Pro Tools and other essential industry-standard software. This minor prepares you to enter music and related industries in an increasing number of roles.

Songwriting

The Songwriting minor is unique in Canada. This minor recognizes the specialized needs of the songwriter in today's and tomorrow's creative industry, and presents an innovative program of study that integrates all aspects of the art and craft of songwriting including creation, performance, recording and production, and business and marketing.
