DIGITAL EXPERIENCE DESIGN

POST-DIPLOMA CERTIFICATE

If you love using digital products and want to learn to design websites, apps, wearables, AR/VR and games, we have the expertise and cutting-edge technology to get you there.

When you choose this post-diploma certificate, you take a deep dive into the field of digital experience design (DXD), adopt a human-centred approach to making design decisions and develop strong digital experience design skills. You explore the ways that people interact with digital products, research real-world problems and create digital solutions that are useful, usable and desirable.

What to expect

This post-diploma certificate offers:

  • An innovative human-centred design curriculum
  • Over 500 hours of DXD-specific training (10 courses, 30 credits)
  • Industry-leading faculty
  • A new, state-of-the-art facility
  • The largest DXD program on the prairies

In this program, you are introduced to the field of user experience design, applying design processes and visual design skills to the creation of digital products such as websites and software applications (apps). You also learn about user research methods to recognize audience behaviours and needs for the purpose of redesigning or creating new digital products.

Building upon skills and methods from foundational courses, you learn to design experiences and interfaces for apps that are delivered using various form factors (mobile, tablet, desktop, wearable, virtual). You also go beyond designing for a single channel to design more complex digital services and learn to work in a multidisciplinary team with computer science students. Projects are open-ended and require students to be problem identifiers not just problem solvers.

You can take related courses in design or outside of design that supplement your digital experience design skills. These range from motion graphics and design research to computing science.

Do I need to know how to draw?

There is no need for students to know how to draw or to have a background in fine art to do Digital Experience Design. DXD is a highly multidisciplinary field and digital experience designers have diverse skill sets and come from various disciplines such as design, business, social science, computer science and communication.

Full-time or part-time study

You can successfully finish this program within one year (30 credits) if you opt for full-time study throughout Spring, Fall and Winter terms. It’s important to note that you need to enroll in the program in the spring to be able to complete it in this timeframe.

Alternatively, for those who prefer a more flexible approach, part-time enrollment is also possible. You can choose to take a few courses each term, allowing you to balance studies with work commitments. You can then enrol in the program for the spring or fall intake.

Other ways to take DXD
