HEARING AID PRACTITIONER

DIPLOMA

In this 60-credit, distance delivery program, you learn to test hearing ability, select appropriate hearing aids and/or assistive listening devices for clients and provide ongoing counselling and support to people with hearing and communication needs.

If you study full time, you can complete the program in two years; part-time students may take up to seven years to complete the program.

Program delivery

Offered primarily as an online program, with some expectations for field experience and labs, you complete the program without moving away from family, friends, jobs and commitments.

A distance-learning curriculum is available online for each course. Textbooks and online multimedia resources are supplemented by online discussions with classmates and instructors and individualized support from instructors. Because assignments, quizzes and exams are completed online, you need access to high speed internet.

You are required to attend approximately 10 days of lab work at MacEwan University to complete the practical learning component. As well, at the end of the program, you complete a field placement course with a required minimum of 180 hours of supervised work in a hearing aid dispensing clinic.
