DIPLOMA

Designed by leading practitioners in the field, this program gives you the skills and strategic insights you need to succeed as a human resources management professional.

You learn about general management theories, organizational behaviour, labour and employee relations, employee training, development, compensation, staffing, workplace health and safety, employment law and change management. The program combines case study analysis with real-life human resources projects and challenges.

Transfer to a degree

Students who graduate with the diploma may transfer into the third year of the Bachelor of Commerce.

If you are planning to transfer to the Bachelor of Commerce, we recommend you take microeconomics and an introductory marketing course as electives. If you have questions about your elective options, please contact an advisor.

CPHR Accreditation

MacEwan University’s Human Resources Management program is accredited with the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of Alberta (CPHR). As one of Alberta’s post-secondary institutions offering this accreditation, MacEwan University prepares you for a successful career.

What does this mean?

  • The HR courses you take at MacEwan University align with the content on the CPHR Designation National Knowledge Exam, making you eligible to have the National Knowledge Exam (NKE) portion of your designation waived.
  • Graduates from 2012 and onwards who meet the requirements are eligible.

Additional requirements

  • You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 in the program.
  • In addition to the NKE portion of the CPHR designation, you also need between three to eight years of professional level HR work experience to achieve the CPHR Designation. Please consult the CPHR website for information on the exact number of years of experience required based on your educational background.
  • You must pay the NKE exam fee when applying to waive the exam.
