Since kicking off our 50th anniversary celebrations last September with the launch of MacEwan.ca/50, we have been looking back at five decades and looking forward to a new vision for the future.

As our 50th year draws to a close, we’re excited to share how we’ve marked this mileston so far and to invite the entire MacEwan community to celebrate with us at 50th on Fourth later this week.
Taking a look back
Distilling countless milestones, facts and figures into 50 key moments was no easy task, but we gave it our best shot.

Sharing stories
There are so many remarkable people who helped shape MacEwan into the post-secondary institution it is today. We reached out to members of our community to share their stories in our 50th Snapshot series.

Championing new initiatives
A group of 50th anniversary champions from across the university – faculty, staff, executives, retirees, alumni and students – came together to plan a full year of engagement. Fuelled by their passion for MacEwan, they promoted initiatives, acted as ambassadors, and led and administered the 50th Anniversary $25,000 Fund.

Making memories
We invited the many thousands of people who have studied, worked and volunteered at MacEwan over the past 50 years, so we invited people to talk about their favourite MacEwan moments.

Time capsule unveiling
In 1993, the MacEwan’s students’ association created a time capsule to commemorate the official opening of City Centre Campus with instructions that it be opened during MacEwan’s 50th anniversary. On November 30, Dr. Annette Trimbee, president and vice-chancellor of MacEwan and Myles Dykes, presidens of the Students’ Association of MacEwan University (SAMU), came together to unveil two new exhibits beside the original time capsule that highlight a selection of its contents.
