A lot happens during the penultimate month of the year, so as you’re “falling back” with the end of Daylight Saving time and amping up for the end of term, make sure to set aside some time in your schedule for the many events and activities happening on campus.

If you find yourself on campus on November 1 while recovering from your Halloween candy sugar high, be prepared for some company. We’re throwing open our doors and welcoming thousands of potential future students at MacEwan’s annual Open House event. Know someone making post-secondary plans in the next few years? Tell them to stop by!

Pause and catch your breath

If you’ve been working at warp speed this term, take a moment to dig in, unwind, and have fun through connection and creativity at the Mitchell Art Gallery's Art Buffet on November 5 and every Wednesday until December 3.

Fall Reading Break is also an excellent time to catch up – and slow down. Make the most of your time off from November 10 to 14 (note that most university buildings and services will be closed on November 11 for Remembrance Day).

Enhance your education

Get a taste of MacEwan’s 2026 Interdisciplinary Dialogue Project when it kicks off its “Food Matters” theme a bit early with a session on November 5 that looks at Drinking Culture(s) and the Culture of Drinking: How Fermented Drinks Came to Be

If you’ve thought about student research but aren’t sure how to get started or where to get funding, Demystifying Student Research Grants on November 6 can help.

Dreaming about cracking the books in a different locale? Find out what’s involved in taking your education on the road at an Education Abroad Information Session on November 20.

The Indigenous Ukrainian Relationship Initiative is hosting Carving Lost Family History: Ukrainian and Indigenous Cultural Revival in the Face of Colonialism on November 6.

And who can forget that exams are right around the corner? Set yourself up for success and plan to join the student success navigators for a Fall Forward: Fall Skills Sessions • Exam Preparation on November 19.

Support healthy communities

The Office of Sexual Violence Prevention, Education and Response is hosting several sessions throughout the month about creating safer online spaces, building a culture of consent and bystander intervention, and how to recognize and respond to dating and intimate partner violence

For National Addictions Awareness Week (November 17 to 22), the Coalition for Harm Reduction at MacEwan (CHARM) is celebrating stories of strength, hosting a resource fair and teaming up with SAMU for their Art Tasting event. Check it out!

Feed yourself with $5 pop-up markets

Students can swing by the pop-up market at Griff’s Landing between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on November 26 to grab some yummy and affordable eats from the Italian Centre Shop (and mark your calendar for the same time and place on December 3 for a pop-up with the Little Potato Company).

Wrap up the month with some fun!

Celebrate the end of classes with an afternoon filled with fun! Stop by the greenspace just outside kihêw waciston for the Brain Freeze Festival on November 26. You’ll find games, axe throwing, bonfires, crafts, a maple taffy station, and plenty of free food and drinks to enjoy with friends!

Want to support MacEwan’s theatre students and wrap up November with a few chills and thrills? There are still some tickets left for Carrie the Musical that runs from November 26 to 30 (the season’s first show sold out – so don’t delay!).
